The American Mushroom Institute
The American Mushroom Institute (AMI) is a national voluntary trade association representing the growers, processors, and marketers of cultivated mushrooms in the United States and industry suppliers worldwide. Membership is available to any person interested in the mushroom industry.

Environment

Research into the effect of the mushroom industry on the environment and ways of reducing it is also important and can benefit the grower.

Equipment and supplies

Computers are used a great deal in the mushroom industry, for example mushroom farms in Canada are the largest users of computers and computer controls in the Canadian agricultural sector. Therefore further advances in this area are important.

Growth

New research on growth factors that will enhance the yield, quality and speed of growth is obviously of great importance to the mushroom grower.

Genetics

New advances into breeding hardier, larger and more rapidly growing species to increase the yield and quality of crops are of obvious interest. The following strain characteristics are of importance to the grower:
